Self-Care & Communication Skills
Support Groups in Santa Fe, New Mexico
…support for family caregivers and for people with a chronic illness
Caring for a loved one or personally living with a life-limiting condition or progressive disease, may be the most demanding period of your life—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Sometimes you don’t know how you’re going to get through the day. Emotions run high, energy low, and with no clear answers in sight, you can feel alone and a certain sense of hopelessness. Talking with people in similar circumstances can make a huge difference.
The purpose of the support group is to learn and share:
- About the life-limiting condition
- Your daily experiences—thoughts, feelings, complaints, and delights
- Ways to care effectively for your loved ones
- Helpful hints in taking care of yourself
- How to communicate with your family, friends, and health team
Sometimes the best medicine is just being safe to say what you are thinking and feeling without being judged or given unwanted advice. Listening to someone else can be a welcome break from your own situation and offer a new perspective.
By participating in the group, you will be better equipped to care for yourself and your loved one, and to communicate more easily with your family, friends, and health team.
